A cold arena, gearless bikes without brakes and an indoor track with nearly vertical corners made for a day of excitement and fun winter training for members of the McMaster Cycling Club!
On Saturday, January 21 six riders from McMaster went to the Forest City Velodrome in London. The riders could be seen sporting their new McMaster Cycling kits while riding the 138m indoor track, one of only three in North America. The riders spent three hours learning to ride the track and getting lots of practice. During this time they completed the level 1 certification and participated in a skills session.
The steep walls in the corners looked intimating especially when described as ‘self cleaning’ by the leader. Riders quickly conquered any doubts they had and were able to ride the wall confidently at high speeds after only a few laps. Everyone had a great time and the day was a huge success. We hope to run this event again next year with an even higher attendance.
Reminder to all riders of the spin classes that take place on Sundays at 3:30pm in the Pulse!
