Last December, “Shoot for the Cure” initiated by the McMaster Men’s and Women’s basketball team and McMaster Athletes Care was a major success. It had many Marauders “Thinking Pink” and helped to raise over $1500 in support of breast cancer research.
The New Year marked a new opportunity to “Think Pink” again. This time in “Dig for the Cure” with the Varsity Men and Women’s Volleyball teams. Fundraising began last Monday, January 16th with cupcake sales in the David Braley Athletic Centre, a perfect post work-out snack. The week wrapped up with the Friday night volleyball games where the Marauders took on the Waterloo Warriors in home matches at the Burridge Gym. Pink breast cancer mittens, pink shoelaces, and of course cupcakes were sold at the game.
Many thanks to the local business support of Westdale Cupcake store, Willy Dogs on campus and the Hamilton Bulldogs Foundation. Student athletes on both the Men's and Women’s volleyball team and the Cross Country team all played a prominent role in fundraising.
Thank-you to all athletes and participants who helped make Dig for the Cure a great success and to McMaster Athletes Care for spearheading the event. Overall, Dig for the Cure raised $1500 for breast cancer research, a cumulative total of over $3000 combined with Shoot for the Cure! To top it all off, both the Men’s and Women’s Volleyball teams were victorious in their Friday night games against the Waterloo Warriors.
