COATES AND HUTCHINSON CLAIM BRONZE AT CIS TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Marauders' two leading lights continued their winning ways at the CIS Track and Field Championships in Edmonton this past weekend.

Victoria Coates and Scott Hutchinson provided McMaster's two podium finishes over the course of the three-day event, each claiming a bronze medal in their respective races.

A year after narrowly missing the podium in the same event, Coates finished third with a time of 9:43.33 in the 3000m race and accomplished a new personal best in the process. That result followed a bronze medal performance at the same distance during the OUA Track and Field Championships in February.

Hutchinson, meanwhile, continued his mastery of the 300m distance, completing the race in a time of 34.34 to finish third and register his second-fastest mark in that event. His time of 33.85 from the McGill Invitational in January remains Hutchinson's best, and the McMaster school record.

Teammate Rudy Baronette joined Hutchinson in the 300m field, and finished eighth in a time of 35.24.

The men's 4x200m and 4x400m relay teams were McMaster's other entrants in the national championships, with the 4x200m group of Hutchinson, Baronette, Connor Mabbott and Garrick Mok finishing seventh with a time of 1:31.22.

Hutchinson, Baronette and Mabbott joined Brandon Huzevka for the 4x400m event, and finished 12th in a time of 3:22.41.
