MCDONALD QUALIFIES FOR CIS CHAMPIONSHIPS AT MCGILL INVITATIONAL

Maddy McDonald booked her place at the CIS Championships, as the Marauder track teams competed at the McGill Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The second-year runner provided the highlight of the weekend, finishing fourth in the 3000m race in a time of 9:43.50 -- which met the national qualification standard. Teammate Racquel Burgess achieved a personal best in the same event, completing the distance in 10:27.07 to place 19th.

Long distance was a strength on the men's side as well, with Taylor Forbes leading the Marauders in the 3000m event by finishing 12th in a time of 8:33.19. Jordan Bierema followed in 17th, while Austen Forbes, Taylor Reid, Gabe Ghiglione and Paul Rochus all ran personal bests in the distance.

Taylor Forbes was at the forefront once again in the 1500m event, where he neared his personal best with a time of 3:56.99. Patrick Deane battled through illness to achieve a personal best alongside teammates Jeff Tweedle and Blair Morgan.

Brandon Huzevka enjoyed one of the best performances in school history at the 600m distance, shattering his previous personal best with a time of 1:22.25 that ranked him third all-time among Marauders. Teammates Jeff Mah (1:23.83) and Greg Hitchon (1:24.06) also accomplished personal bests at the distance.

The Marauders return to action on Saturday, as they travel to York -- this year's host of the OUA Championships -- for the York Invitational. The group of McDonald, Chelsea Mackinnon, Blair Morgan, Bierema, Eric Barry and Tweedle will travel to Boston the following week to compete at the Valentines Invitational hosted by Boston University.
