A week after both McMaster volleyball teams signalled their strength with spots in their opening national polls, the Marauders basketball teams did the same Tuesday, as the sport made its debut in the U Sports Top 10 rankings.
Mac's women, fresh from a tournament victory at the Darcel Wright Memorial Classic at Ryerson, entered the first rankings of the basketball season at no. 3. Meanwhile, the Marauders men, who went unbeaten in a jam-packed non-conference schedule, found themselves at no. 4 in the first poll.
Beginning their OUA campaigns with victories on Friday, the Marauders men's volleyball team remained at no. 3 for a second week, while the women inched forward one spot to no. 5.
Despite holding off a late challenge from the Guelph Gryphons to advance to the OUA semi-final stage Saturday, the Marauders football team plunged from no. 4 to no. 7 in Tuesday's Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) national poll.
Both McMaster cross country teams, who competed at the OUA Championships in Toronto Sunday, retained spots in the national polls. The men fell from a tie for sixth to the no. 7 spot after their fourth-placed finish at the conference event, and the women climbed into a tie for no. 8 after a team finish of seventh.
