Track: Tweedle, Relay Teams Win Bronze at OUA Championships

McMaster's distance unit continued to excel this weekend, taking home three bronze medals from the OUA Track and Field Championships hosted by the Windsor Lancers on Friday and Saturday.

Beaten only by the pair of Toronto's Sacha Smart and Windsor's Corey Bellemore —who both broke the previous OUA meet record — Mac's Jeff Tweedle came away from the 1000m event with a bronze medal and beat the CIS standard with a time of 2:24.13.

He was back in action again as the Marauders notched a pair of podium places in the 4x800m relays, with Tweedle, Connor Darlington, Nick Kondrat and Matt Napier winning OUA bronze and beating the CIS standard in a time of 7:40.43, while the women's team of Chelsea Mackinnon, Emily Nowak, Kaitlyn Pansegrau and Maddie Benjamin also won bronze.

Other scores for the Marauders came courtesy of Benjamin, who crossed the line seventh in the 1500m event in a time of 4:41.71, and veteran Blair Morgan, who finished fifth in the 3000m with a time of 8:22.05.

Tweedle and his fellow national qualifers will now enjoy a week away from competition, before travelling to Toronto to take part in the CIS Championships, hosted by the York Lions between March 10-12.
