Strength up the middle has been a key element of the success the McMaster men's volleyball team has enjoyed in recent seasons and  Coach Dave Preston is thrilled to add to that strength with the announcement that Tyler Pavelic of Oakville has committed to join the Marauders in 2018.

"We are really excited to welcome Tyler to our program, as he is a great fit for us here at McMaster," said Preston about his new middle blocker.  "He's big, athletic, a good student and a great young man; and at his size Tyler will be a force in the middle for years to come."

 Standing 6-8 (204cm) Pavelic has had tremendous success with both his Pakmen Gold club team and with his high school squad at Oakville Loyola.  "McMaster is one of the best academic schools in Ontario and has the program that is a best fit for me," said Pavelic about his decision to don Maroon. "The volleyball program is outstanding, considering their past championships, and I feel that I could learn a lot from Dave (Preston) and become a better player."
 
Among his accolades,  Pavelic helped his Pakmen Gold club team to a National Championship in 2016, and powered his Loyola Hawks to an undefeated high school season and regional championship in 2017.
 
Planning to study Earth and Environmental Sciences at McMaster, Pavelic says making the early decision about where he will attend university has been a huge relief. "Not having to worry about looking at different schools takes a lot of pressure off, which will help me focus my attention on finishing high school strong and training for next year, " added the provincial team candidate.  "I can see the stress other students are going through and I'm glad I've made my decision and when asked I can proudly answer the big question."
 
The McMaster men's volleyball team is currently on the December exam/holiday break, and will be hosting a visit from NCAA volleyball power Long Beach State on December 29th and 30th, with start times of 7 p.m. in the Burridge Gym.   Tickets for this holiday volleyball series can be purchased online at Marauders.ca.
